The fantastic five of the Arabian Sea

The fantastic five from the Arabian Sea to the beautiful canals to the huge Vembanad Lake to the backwaters, every landscape is unique and has an identity of its own.

Marari beach

One of the favourite destinations of Malayalam movies, Marari Beach is located 11 Kms from the Alappuzha. A perfect destination to hang out with families, its inviting sand and sea bring millions of tourists from across the world. Sitting quietly under a coconut tree while sipping a tender coconut, this beach destination can be reached by boarding KSRTC bus from Alappuzha town to the Mararikulam Junction. It is a few minutes walk to the beach from the Junction.

Thottappally

This illustrious destination doesn’t need any introduction for the people of the southern part of the Indian peninsula. Thottappally beach and fishing harbour have been immortalized in the 1956 Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai novel ‘Chemmeen’ and by a film of the same name released in 1965. One can also experience the famous Ambalapuzha Srikrishna temple which is just 10 Kms ahead on the National Highway 47.

Valiazheekkal beach

Easily accessible through NH 66, Valiazheekkal beach is one of the virgin beaches of Alappuzha. If you are looking for sand, sea, sun and silence, this is the one that would suit you best. Luckily, tourists are yet to throng in this beach since it is relatively unknown, you can easily rediscover yourself in this part of the globe.

Andhakaranazhi

Andhakaranazhi is where the backwaters meet the Arabian Sea. It is a sleepy coastal village located 4 km west of Pattanakkad and just 30 km from Kochi. Discover a different world en route to this beautiful place dotted with paddy fields and typical Kerala style houses. The famous Arthunkkal church made of wood is a major attraction that was built in the seventh century. Adorned by decorative details, this church is just 20 minutes drive from the church.

Arthunkal beach

Located just 15 minutes away from Marari Beach, Arthunkal is famous for the pilgrim centre St. Andrew’s Basilica and a scenic beach here. Watch the dazzling fishing boats reluctantly lying on the beach and explore the lives of the fishermen. If a bunch of tourists seeks to explore beyond the beach, then they can even walk down to fishermen villages which aren’t very far from there where they can taste a different world altogether.
